The United States
Coast Guard Recruiting Initiative for the Twenty-First Century (CGRIT)
Program is available to outstanding minority high school students,
male and female, to enter college, then leading to commissions as
officers in the U.S. Coast Guard. Eligible students are provided with
one year of funding for their education at Historically Black Colleges
and Universities (HBCUs) after which the students enter the U.S.
Coast Guard Academy with full payment.

ELIGIBILITY
Students recruited
through this initiative may enter the United States Coast Guard Academy
by one of the following methods:
- Transferring
from an Historically Black College or University (HBCU) to the U.S.
Coast Guard Academy (USCGA) upon meeting competitive entrance standards;
- Admission
from a participating high school into the USCGA upon meeting competitive
entrance standards; and
- Meeting scholastic
requirements with a minimum combined Math-Verbal SAT 1 score of
1050 or a minimum combined score of 45 on the Math and English portions
of the ACT.

APPLICATION
The deadline for
receipt of applications for direct admission to the U.S. Coast Guard
Academy is December 15. The deadline for admission to the U.S. Coast
Guard Academy via an Historically Black College or University (HBCU)
is March 15.
